Bulilima and Mangwe
According to the Bulilima and Mangwe District Education Office Statistics (BDEOS), an average of 7000 children who do not enroll in school annually due to either lack of fees or medical complications. Of the 20425 girls who are fortunate to be enrolled in first grade, only 5371 finish high school, with the highest dropout rate of 36.64 happening at primary school. Similarly, student enrollment of 20501 boys results in 6652 boys finishing high schools with a slightly lower dropout rate of 34.9%. The high school dropout rate for boys is higher than that for girls - 26.7% compared to 17.1%. There is a high migration of boys seeking employment in neighboring South Africa.
